Our Review of Revel in Atlantic City
Opening day at Revel brought an excitement to Atlantic City that hasn’t been seen since Borgata opened in 2003.
After an eight-week “preview,” the grand opening took place on Memorial Day weekend with Beyonce doing four shows in the 5,000-seat Ovation Hall. Although many of the property’s restaurants and stores are still being built, most of the amenities are available to guests.
While uninspiring on the outside (have you ever seen a casino without a sign on the building?), Revel more than makes up for it on the inside. The casino is very well designed with clusters of tables and slot machines scattered in no particular pattern.
Each area of the casino floor has its own unique décor, with different lighting fixtures and ceiling heights. Bars and nightclubs seem to be everywhere, including Ivan Kane’s Royal Jelly, a burlesque nightclub that mixes rock and roll with scantily clad dancers. The poker room is above the casino near a balcony that overlooks the casino floor.
While Revel is missing some things we prefer to see in a casino property – like a simulcasting room and a private players’ club – it’s still a first-class gaming experience.
Revel’s hotel rooms and suites all feature an ocean view with contemporary furnishings and granite and marble bathrooms. Each room has a computer tablet that features everything from a phone and an alarm clock to an internet browser.
Only three restaurants were open the first day but soon there will be fourteen eateries ranging from casual to gourmet. By their grand opening day, Revel featured several celebrity chefs such as Robert Weidmaier from the Muscle Bar, Marc Forgione from American Cut and Alain Allegretti from Azure.
Billed as lifestyle resort, Revel features six pools, the 30,000-square-foot Bask Spa and the Sky Garden which is a large deck soaring 144 feet above the beach and boardwalk with plants, trees and a fireplace. There are also many sitting areas throughout the property with comfortable couches and chairs.
Revel is completely smoke-free except for a deck outside of the 40,000-square-foot HQ Nightclub.
Revel is certainly a game-changer in Atlantic City and for the entire Jersey Shore. It’s a must-see attraction with very few flaws in its game.
